
Deacon Gregory W. Sams
Deacon Sams was raised in Columbia, South Carolina in the Baptist faith. In 1968, he married Patsy Benke, who was raised in Sacred Heart Parish in Charleston and spent many summers on Sullivan's Island, and then joined the Air Force. Returning to Charleston, he graduated from The Citadel in 1973. In 1985 he entered the Catholic Church. They lived in the Bluffton/Hilton Head area for the past 30 years where he made his living as a CPA. Greg and Patsy have three daughters, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. In 2019 Patsy was named the Catholic Woman of the Year in the Beaufort Deanery.
Deacon Sams was ordained on September 1, 2002 and has served at Saint Gregory the Great Parish until early 2019. In addition to his duties of preaching, baptizing, officiating at marriages, and counseling, he has led 31 weekend sessions of the Christ Renews His Parish retreat program throughout the Southeast.

Deacon Karl P. Eimers
Deacon Eimers was ordained on February 9, 2019. He and Maureen married in 1993 and have three adopted children: Zach, Greg, and Angela.
He was raised in Saint Maries, Idaho. His parents are small business owners and raised him and his older sister in the pine-covered forests of the Bitterroot Mountains where he learned to hunt, fish, ski and play golf. He left Idaho for New York State to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point. He opted to receive his military commission in the Navy which brought him to Newport, Rhode Island, where he met his future wife, Maureen. He continued to serve in the Navy for 20 years. Since retiring from the Navy, Deacon Eimers has worked in Defense Acquisition, first as a contractor, and recently as a government engineer supporting Marine Corps projects. His primary interest as a deacon is the Church’s mission to evangelize, that is, to lead people into an authentic and fruitful relationship with Jesus, our Lord.
