WHO WE ARE
Saint Clare of Assisi Catholic Church was formally established on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014. The geographical boundaries of the parish encompass Daniel Island and the Cainhoy peninsula. Our current 3,400 members live within the parish as well as Mount Pleasant, North Charleston, Hanahan, Goose Creek, and Summerville. Most members moved to the Charleston area from other parts of the world. We range in age from infants to 90+ years of age with the majority being between the ages of eight and sixty-five years.
For nine years, we worshiped on the weekends in the Performing Arts Center of Bishop England High School. Our Neo-Gothic church building was dedicated on April 22, 2023, the culmination of five years of planning and three years of construction. Amazingly, at the Mass of Dedication, our founding pastor, Father West, announced that the entire cost of the building was paid and that there would be no debt or mortgage. The project has won several national and regional awards for design and construction excellence.
We worship in the ancient and traditional style of the Roman Catholic Church in a way that is both solemn and comfortable with great emphasis placed on the mystery and gift of the Holy Eucharist while promoting congregational participation in word and song. We take our roles in Christian discipleship seriously as we joyfully live and share the Gospel of our Savior Jesus Christ. Welcome!
