What Vatican II Really Said: Studying the Word of God from the Heart of the Church
(July 2023 - August 2023)
How should Catholics approach Bible study? Should we always interpret Scripture literally, and how do we know whose interpretation is correct anyway?
In this six-week study, we will first turn to Dei Verbum, the Second Vatican Council’s Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation, for the Church’s teachings on Sacred Scripture and the other sources of divine revelation. We will then become familiar with the overarching narrative of the entire Bible and the literary genres found throughout Scripture. Finally, we will discuss the four classic approaches to interpreting Scripture.
